1977 I travelled in India for the first time, and was stuck; India, the people and situations I met challenged most of my ideas about life. Twice more I've had the opportunity to return, to see other parts of the subcontinent. I do hope to be able to return; India has given me major experiences, not all of them pleasant but all surprising. All reasons to learn and reflect over culture, patience, globalisation, beauty and much more. Through a friend I got to stay in Auroville on the southeast coast for a short period of time in 1997, a place where deeply engaged people have visions for the community. In 2001 I came back for a field trip as part of my studies at Kulturverkstan; how do one organise a utopia? Read more about Auroville on their extensive web site. Traditional
crafts are still tools in the daily ceremonies and traditions of a new
and changing society. Handicraft, business, cultural identity or folk
art? |
